DEFENSE INDUSTRY RESEARCH AND TECHOLOGICAL DEVELOPMENT REGION - SATGEB
METU Technopolis Defense Industry Research and Technological Development Region (SATGEB), established as sub region inside the borders of METU Technopolis Technological Development Region, is a private region that can meet the necessity of secrecy and security of defense industry and was established in an open area of 40.000 m2. The total structure area, which has rapid and secure communication substructure, and which consists of a common building and 4 R&D building, is 15370 m2. SATGEB has designed as an excellence center, where Havelsan, Aselsan and TAI buildings, which are the leading defense industry companies in Turkey, are active in. The esteemed support and directions of Turkish Armed Forces Foundation have an important role in the success of the project.
Aim:
SATGEB, includes the joint owners of Turkish Armed Forces, defense industry companies, main contractor companies, university and research centers, SME and public, was established as a center to be effective in strengthening the national defense sector, in which the systems of national defense industry are obliged to be national, within the scope of procurement model, based on R&D, and have been produced and developed by university and industry in cooperation with requirements department.
Entirety Center : According to this aim the physical structure of the region was designed as it creates a synergy among companies and between procurement department. With the Common building, its panel and meeting rooms, contact offices of procurement department, cafeteria and recreative organizations, the thought of SATGEB as an entirety center has been strengthened. Besides, the technical services such as the central heating, generator and transformer in R&D buildings that are given to Common building companies are gathered together and all system was installed as can be managed from central automation.
Targets : SATGEB Project, came into service with targets to be one of the application means of defense sector R&D and technology policies, to supplement power for technology production aimed at defense industry, and to perform the civil sector applications of the developed technologies, is an example of success and the studies of SATGEB- 2 Project has been started within the frame of demands of new companies to be in this structure.
The most important expectations of SATGEB Project are to develop of synergy for national defense R&D projects, to provide high investment with double aimed applications of developed technologies, to form employment opportunities for qualified researcher labor force, to plan R&D projects in medium and long term, create an environment to the allowance of planned resource, to support effective attendance to international defense R&D projects.
Principle Policy : With the reality of the necessity for a powerful national defense industry to be able to authoritatively in international area, and on the other hand for powerful national defense industry, there is the necessity of the continuous and priority application of procurement model based on R&D; the adopted principal policy in SATGEB project is to supplement in productivity usage of limited country resources to be performed in R&D defense projects to be used in civil sector by providing aim and target union in order to form common language between universities, defense industry companies and necessity department at ODTÜ-Technopole Defense Industry Sub Region.
